AutoTec, a privately held business in Birmingham, AL, traces its history back to the late 1800’s when the company’s earliest business included selling insurance, financial guaranty bonds, real estate, and typewriters.
In 1953, at the request of leading auction owners, Tom Adams, Sr. pioneered a unique insurance program designed to meet the needs of the auction industry, commonly known as Payment and Title Guaranty Insurance.
Since that time, AutoTec has continued to evolve, now providing insurance, credentialing, vehicle history, risk management and claims administration services for the automotive industry. AutoTec and its team members are committed to providing innovative solutions and high-level customer service for our partners in the automotive industry.
Captain Richard Fuller Manly establishes R.F Manly and Co. on 5th Avenue North in Birmingham.
Tom Adams, Sr. develops Auction Insurance Agency and its Payment and Title Guaranty program for the wholesale automotive industry.
Operating as Robinson Adams Insurance, operations are moved to Highland Avenue on the south side of Birmingham.
The company launches Centennial Casualty Company, a multi-line property and casualty insurer.
The company begins selling vehicle history “exception reports” to auto auctions. The data is exclusively title branded information from state DMVs.
The company relocates to its current location atop Red Mountain in Homewood, Al.
AuctionACCESS is developed and launched to provide dealer credentialing services for wholesale vehicle auctions.
AutoTec partners with Experian to provide AutoCheck Vehicle History reports for its auction customers.
Red Mountain Technologies begins selling vehicle history to auto insurance carriers for rating and underwriting.
VIN CrossCheck is launched as a data sharing platform to help lenders securely and confidentially exchange VIN information

Charlie Adams joined the company in 2011 and currently serves as Vice President at AuctionACCESS, where he manages the company’s customer support operations. In addition, Charlie oversees business development for the company’s auction and floor plan platforms as well as its VIN CrossCheck product. Charlie graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of North Carolina and also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama. A native of Birmingham, Charlie is active locally with the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Young Supporters Board.
Richard joined AutoTec in 1971 and serves as Vice President for the AutoTec family of companies. With over 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Richard is responsible for the development and oversight of the company’s insurance operations. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, he holds the CPCU insurance designation.
Tom serves as Chairman of the AutoTec family of companies. For his contributions to the auction industry, Tom was named to the National Auto Auction Association Hall of Fame in 1992. Tom has been with the company since 1970 and holds a degree from the University of North Carolina.
Director of Human Resources
Elizabeth joined AutoTec in 2015 where she manages the human resource needs for all of the AutoTec affiliated companies. Elizabeth has worked in human resources for nearly 20 years, including previous experience at both AmSouth Bank and Children’s Hospital of Alabama. She received her BA from Vanderbilt University.
Vice President / Auction Insurance Agency
Bryan joined AutoTec in 2004 and is responsible for the daily operations of the company’s buyer protection programs and arbitration services. His responsibilities include loss prevention, account analysis and project management. Bryan holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and earned his J.D. from the Birmingham School of Law. Bryan is also a member of the Alabama State Bar.
Chief Financial Officer/AutoTec
William is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Insurance Counselor, and a Certified Risk Manager. Prior to joining AutoTec, he held management positions with companies in the automotive, wholesale distribution and insurance industries. William also spent 12 years with a large publicly-held company. He currently serves as CFO of the AutoTec family of companies and leads a team that handles the company’s accounting and financial functions.
Chief Strategy Officer/Red Mountain Technologies and AutoCheck Auctions
Steve serves as Chief Strategy Officer of Red Mountain Technologies and AutoCheck Auctions, where he is responsible for the overall corporate strategy for both companies. In more than 30 years with the AutoTec companies, Steve has been a leading voice in the development of new products for both auction insurance coverage and vehicle history. A graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Steve was named to the National Auto Auction Association Hall of Fame in 2010.
Senior VP of Technology Operations/AutoTec
Donna joined AutoTec in 2000 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Technology Operations. She manages the technology divisions for all the AutoTec companies. Donna is a graduate of Samford University and holds a BA in Business Administration. She serves on the board of directors for the Executive Women International Birmingham Chapter and is also involved with Junior Achievement of Birmingham.
President/Red Mountain Technologies and AutoCheck Auctions
John serves as President of Red Mountain Technologies and AutoCheck Auctions, where he manages the all areas of operations for both companies. John also has responsibilities for day to day operational management. John earned a B.A. and B.S. in Business Administration and History from Birmingham-Southern College as well as a MA in Public and Private Management. John’s interests include raising and showing Arabian horses on his farm in North Alabama.
Vice President of Customer Service/ Red Mountain Technologies and AutoCheck Auctions
Esther has been with AutoTec since 1997 and since 1999 has served as Vice President of Customer Relations for AutoCheck Auctions. Esther and her team provide customer service for over 99 percent of auto auctions in the United States as well as many of the largest property and casualty insurers in the country.
President/Auction Insurance Agency
Ben has been with AutoTec since 1997 and serves as the President of Auction Insurance Agency, where he is responsible for the strategic development of the company’s risk management services and products. Ben graduated with a BA in communications/public relations from the University of Alabama in 1997, and has called Birmingham home for nearly 20 years. He is active with his church, the Literacy Council of Central Alabama and other community endeavors.
Product Manager / AuctionACCESS
Patricia serves as the product manager for the AuctionACCESS product line. She brings nearly 30 years of software development experience to her current position. Prior to joining AutoTec in 2001, Patricia applied her liberal arts background to the fairly new computer software industry with a Birmingham based medical billing company. She remains a popular resource for her college’s liberal arts career counseling department.
Chuck joined AutoTec in 2002 and serves as Chief Executive Officer of AutoTec, where he is responsible for the strategic leadership of the company’s objectives and growth. Prior to joining AutoTec, Redden served as navigator onboard the U.S.S. Harry W. Hill (DD-986) and as a commercial loan officer with AmSouth Bank. A native of Tennessee, Redden holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. He is active in the National Auto Auction Association, the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, the Rotary Club of Birmingham and other civic organizations.
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer/Auction Insurance Agency
Brandon has been with Auction Insurance Agency since 1993. As Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer, his duties include management of all daily operations of our Payment and Title insurance program, including loss prevention, recovery, claims adjusting and maintenance of existing accounts. His responsibilities also include sales of all products and services, as well as business development. Brandon earned a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Senior Vice President / Auction Insurance Agency
Tony joined AutoTec in 1998 and currently serves as Senior Vice President of Auction Insurance. He oversees business development and customer relations for the company. His responsibilities include sales of all products and services, and he is a licensed Property and Casualty Insurance Agent. Originally from Long Island, New York, Tony is a graduate of the University of Alabama and holds a BA in Communications.

AUCTIONACCESS CUSTOMER SUPPORT SPECIALIST I
Purpose: The Customer Support Specialist I is responsible for taking incoming calls from auctions and dealers who subscribe to AuctionACCESS. The Customer Support Specialist is charged with providing exceptional service on routine matters. He/she will answer 25+ calls per day and maintain appropriate system notes and documentation. The Customer Support Specialist will process and verify data from dealers and auctions.
